A Good Old Gopeng Grind:

Earth Camp’s Soft Launch Ride

Nomad Adventure’s new biker café at Earth Camp had its soft launch this Tuesday and what better way to celebrate this than with a ride with some of my Live More Event friends.

The ride was relatively short compared to some of the other crazy stuff featured in this irregular and arguably irrelevant blog.

But it was packed with variety. The 18km route showcased everything that makes Gopeng a playground for adventure seekers and why both road, gravel and mountain bike cyclists should consider it.

We rolled out on quiet kampung roads, the kind where friendly nods from locals and the smell of nasi lemak and sambal sauce set the tone by giving you a proper appetite for life.

From there, it was onto single track weaving through plantations that were shaded, winding, and just technical enough to keep things interesting.

Then came the real treat: sandy gravel behind Gua Tempurung. Fast, loose, and with the limestone cliffs towering overhead, it felt like riding through a scene from an adventure film.

This ride also proved something important: adventure cycling isn’t just about epic distances or self-supported suffering.

If you are with the right people this area offers a sense of adventure riding for everyone in the family.

It redefines what it means to explore on two wheels. And really, isn’t that the best kind of adventure?

The kind you can share. The kind that forges deep bonds and leaves behind enchanting and everlasting memories.

Memories that can be embedded into great stories that our kids will tell their kids over a Kopi in maybe a similar Kafe as Nomad’s in Earth Camp ;-)

If this soft launch was any indication, Earth Camp could become a must-stop for riders visiting Gopeng.

In closing I’d like to say a big thank you to Yuen Li and her team for inviting me and some of my Live More friends to experience this latest little adventure of mine 🙏🏻

Until the next one. D
